Craving Dim Sum

by Eric Tan on November 25, 2008 · 6 comments

Strongly craving some Dim Sum the last couple of days. Anybody feel the same way?

And this picture from the Asian Sweetheart Blog is not helping at all. Her dumplings look good… the ones in the basket…

It’s a shame that my fiancee DOES NOT know what Dim Sum is. Yes, I know right… She is missing out!!! That’s actually my inspiration for this post. Here is a little something about Dim Sum from Wikipedia to shine some light on the subject.

Dim sum is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. It is usually served in the mornings until noon time at Chinese restaurants and at specialty dim sum eateries where typical dishes are available throughout the day. Dishes come in small portions and may include meat, seafood, and vegetables, as well as desserts and fruit. The items are usually served in a small steamer basket or on a small plate. Yum cha (literally “tea drinking”) is the term used to describe the dining session, especially in contemporary Cantonese. Chinese families in particular typically like to gather at Chinese restaurants for dim sum on occasions such as Mother’s Day or Chinese New Years.

Here is a pic that’s sure to get the crave going: (Really authentic with the smoking lady in the back)

Watch the video below for an inside look in The Phoenix Restaurant located at the Chicago China Town. Dim Sum Food Trip for December anyone?

I just might go to H-mart to get some shrimp dumplings…
Seriously, I have been craving dumplings daily for like a month now. I keep telling my chinese co-worker everyday that I will buy dumplings, but I’ve been too lazy to drive to the store. My co-worker even taught me how to cook dumplings the chinese way.
maybe tonight….or tomorrow…or whenever….
