Does Google Know Your Name?

by Eric Tan on November 5, 2008 · 9 comments

Have you seen that movie Wanted? With Angelina Jolie & James McAvoy? Well, I remember in the beginning of that movie Wesley (James McAvoy) was narrating about how he did not know the purpose for his life and he felt he was a nobody. He typed his name in a Google Search and it showed zero results. Is it possible for a persons name to show zero results? So maybe you can help me with this little experiment. I’m going to type my full name in a Google search and see how many results I get and see if that’s actually me in the results.

Here we go:

And here are my results: 551,000 results for the name Eric Tan
Man, I’m not even in the top ten. I guess the name Eric Tan is very very common:

How about you?
How many search results show up for your name? And are you in the top ten? Because this is Contest Wednesdays, I will turn this into a commenting contest. I will be randomly picking a winner from the all the comments from all my posts between November 5 and midnight November 11. I will announce the winner next Wednesday (November 12). The winner will receive the new “FeedingTheCrave.com” T-Shirt.

Ikki November 6, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Actually, I did search for both my nickname (Ikki) and my name (Héctor Cabrera) and found out that I’m not in the top ten either.

Ikki is a famous anime character from the Saint Seiya comic. Héctor Cabrera was a famous singer over here. I was kinda expecting not to appear in the top ten results for this searches :P

since my name is occupying the top spot on google, this makes me to think to use my name for online marketing :D

I haven’t seen anyone else having my name – Ganesh Srinivas, in the blogosphere. But if I do a Google search, it turns out there are a lot of folks with my name but thank god, they’re not in the blogosphere. :)
