Food Trip #4 at Mi Ciudad

by Eric Tan on October 28, 2008 · 2 comments

We had another successful Food Trip last week, this time at Mi Ciudad – 3041 West IRving Park Rd, Chicago IL 60618. Phone # (773) 866-2066

The owner Mr. Manuel Aguilar and his daughter Lanette, were nice enough to accomodate our group of about twenty.

Mi Ciudad has had its doors open for the last eights years. Before then, Mr. Aguilar had more than 15 years experience as a chef for various hotels and hotel restaurants. Mi Ciudad is located just a little bit north east of the loop and is easily accessible through public transportation.

The ambiance of the restaurant brings you to a foreign land and is decorated with various Ecuadorian artifacts. If you have any questions about what’s on their walls, Mr. Aguilar will no doubt tell you a story or two that will satisfy your curiosity.

Our section of tables were arranged in a big square so we were all facing each other. This was a big improvement from our past Food Trips where we had to be in different tables because of space constraints. And because we were all facing each other, everyone was in on the conversation. Now let’s get to the food: For the lack of a better adjective, the food was totally awesome! We ordered pretty much from every category on the menu as you will see in the pictures below:

My favorite of them all was the Parrillada Ecuatoriana (below). It has Beef Ribs, Pork , Ecuadorian sausage, Chicken, Potato Pancakes, Fried Pork, Grilled Sausage and Shrimp, Oh My! It has all that on top of a mini stove gadget to keep the meat sizzling! Meat lovers, this is the meal of champions, and to top it off, its served with rice! =)

Mi Ciudad also features a full bar, complete with Ecuadorian liquor that Mr. Aguilar will gladly let you have a taste. The “Pilsener” is an Ecuadorian beer that I will always have when I am at Mi Ciudad because its not offered else where.

To summarize Food Trip #4, we all had a blast trying a new cuisine. We met new friends, drank new beer, and we only paid about $20 per person including drinks and appetizers. We will come back to Mi Ciudad for sure. Get ready for the Next Food Trip by Getting my future posts Via Email, I will be announcing our next destination soon.

I want to thank all the people who made this possible – Mr. Aguilar, Lanette, Wilmer (the cook), May, Geo, Maui, Eenah, Jolo, Joyfel, Aiza, John John, Fernando, Kenisha, Jim, Lindsey, Katriana, and yours truly.
