Once A Day Is Enough For Me!

by Eric Tan on October 27, 2008 · 1 comment

I have been Blogging for almost a month now and realized the bottom line – Content makes the Blog. I learned this off the bat during my first few days of looking into blogging. For some reason, when I wanted to start FeedingTheCrave.com, more than half of the posts that were getting posted on other blogs were about how important pumping out content is for the survival of your blog or any website for that matter. My main concerns were the following: #1 What am I going to write about? #2 How often should I write about it? and #3 How long or short should I keep my posts? And that’s what we will tackle in today’s edition of My Blogging Education.
So lets talk about it one questions at a time. But before we do, I want to let you know that the content below will reflect MY EXPERIENCES with Blogging. I am in no reason, shape or form posing as a Blog Guru. If you have your set of tips and tricks, you are more than welcome to post them up in the comments section. =)

#1 What am I going to write about? - Two weeks into posting on FeedingTheCrave.com, I realized that I wanted to not just write about our Food Trips, there are a few other topics that I have passion for. I decided to start a Blogging Schedule, a different topic each day. It look at little something like this:

I pretty much added in all the topics I can comfortably post about and came up with this list. It is pretty straight forward and it helps me out a lot by setting deadlines and gives me ample time to do my research. I use the time stamping feature of WordPress to stay ahead at least a few days. My schedule will give my blog at least one post a day. Whenever I feel the crave to post something up, I am not limited to my schedule – I just post it up whenever I want. Last week for example, Darren Rowse gave his readers a chance to pitch their blog on Problogger.com. This chance was only open for 48 hours so I posted it up.

#2 How often should I write about it? - There is no set rule on how often you should post. As long as you are comfortable with the pace you should use that. I suggest to start low, get used to your blogging system and build up from there. But like the song goes: “It’s my weBlog and I’ll post if I want to, post if want to, post if I want to, you will post to if it happened to you!” If you set a posting frequency try to follow it consistently. I had to get used to using Wordpress the first few weeks so in the beggining I was not really posting everyday unti l I got the hang of it.

#3 How long or short should I keep my posts? – There is no set rule on how long or short your posts have to be either. Depending on your topic of course. My topics range from 200 words to about 800 words. The Deals and Contest details would of course be shorter than the Reflection and Life Experience posts. If you are writing a How-to, a step by step documented process will of course be a little lengthy. When this happens you can split them up into different parts… like a trilogy.
