Or Else Your Wife Will Be Ugly

Nice title eh? A little too direct i know, but when I was growing up, I would always hear this line form my Mom, my Aunts, and our maids. Whenever I did not finish the food on my plate they would say “Ubusin mo yan, kung hindi pangit yung mapapangasawa mo!” Loosely translated it goes “Finish your food or else the one you will marry will be ugly.” hence the title. =)

This memory came back to me during lunch the other day. I went to Hong Ning in Bloomingdale and ordered my “usual” meal. It’s kinda sad when the owner of the restaurant knows what your “usual” meal is. And just to share, the meal is comprised of Steamed Rice, Lechon Kawali, and Sinigang Soup. Nowadays I’ve built a habit of taking pictures of our food during our Food Trips so this meal was no different.

As you can see from the pictures above, I pretty much wiped this meal clean. Of course I have outgrown this superstitious non-sense early on, but I was laughing to myself after I took the “after” picture because I could hear them in my head going “If you don’t finish your food, your wife will be ugly!” Ahhh… the memories of growing up in the Philippines.

As some of you may know, I recently got engaged and THANK GOD I always finished my food. This superstition may not have anything to do with why my Fiancee is beautiful, she just is. But I guess I will be continuing to clean my plate until I get married. LOL!
